To be truthful and in full disclosure, I have trained over 1000 game testers and I offer an online Training course here http://powerupgames.com/video-game-tester.html. I have never found a legit stay at home testing job in 12+ years as a game tester in the video game industry or have found anyone that makes more than what the professional game testers are being paid. I would be careful of anyone that says you can make over $10-12/hr to start. Usually your are making $16-20/hr in 3-4 years.

Never pay for a game testing job. Never pay for a subscription to find a game testing job. They are usually scams. To save your money, type Game Testing Job into google and go apply or go to Gamejobs.com or similar site.

You don’t need any college courses to become a game tester but I would recommend at least some minimal training because the competition for the positions is great. It is easy for the HR person to say No computer classes, no game testing education = No phone interview. The HR people are not going to phone interview all 200-300 people who apply for game testing positions. They may call 10% so you have to get into that top 10%.

To build out your resume, cover letter and portfolio… Become familiar with what game testing is, terminology, etc and build out a good cover letter and resume.

Get some good experience and be able to talk about what you did in with the knowledge and terminology you have learned about Game Testing.

Become familiar with the basics of game testing so after you land a position, you can keep it.
(Hire then 2 days later fire happens in some companies. It is easier and cheaper than a deep interview process.)

Let me also say, I have liked game testing for a career. Yes it can become repetitive but so is flipping burgers at the fast food places and planting bushes for some landscaper. I would rather play a game over and over than most other things.

Also game testing is a good career in conversations. When I would mention I was a game tester, people were interested, guys or girls, it didn’t matter. If I mentioned I worked in fast food or dug trenches for sprinkler systems, the conversation usually died quicker.

I’d suggest this isn’t an emergency – if you can’t find anything on Google, then you’re going to have to get another pool job. In fact I’d wager good money you won’t find anything.

Besides, video games testing isn’t as glamorous as you might think. You’re not sitting there playing and enjoying the game, you’re sitting there and playing the same tiny tiny bit over and over and over and over and over (repeat ad nauseum) again and you’re not trying to complete it, you’re trying to see if you can break it.
