Let me answer for the USA and for small and medium sized publishers.
Game Testers start at 8-10 /hr in the US.
In 3-4 years, they should be in the 15-18/hr range.
Usually in the 4 year range, you will get promoted to management or you can move to another similar discipline.
In about another 4 years you will get another promotion or move.Should now be salaried and in the $50K-$60 range.
This assumes that you keep your skills good to get the promotions and you have the skills and abilities to manage or do a different discipline.
For Large publishers
They hire more people but the moving up the scale is slower because you are competing with a larger audience.
The best time to prepare to enter the industry is when they start to hire for the Christmas push.

How to build experience to get a job for game testing?
I would like to become a game tester, so of course I would like experience testing games to increase my chances of getting hired. What kind of things can I do to better qualify myself for a game testing job? I’ve of course already been playing video games for the majority of my life(specifically on PC), and along with that I know what game testers are required to do. Are there any websites that let people game test for free? Where can I go to get experience?

How to become a free game tester and make money doing it?
Im looking to become a game tester but I want to test the games for free and earn money dong it.Is there any thing out there like that?

It is but the ones that hire are game developing studios, although I think there’s a major competition for this type of job. Plenty of people are willing to play a game over and over again, 10 hours a day, just to find bugs & glitches.
Well first it would be great to have some experience/knowledge. Get yourself any beta game or software and then try it, see if you can find any bugs. Steam has a beta participation program. Then ask your local game developing studios if they are hiring anyone and what are the requirements for the job.
But why would anyone pay to test a game if they’re going to hire you with a pay? The studio/company covers all the cost if needed, otherwise it’s a scam.
You can also become a capitalist. Earn some money and put it into stocks. All stocks went up since the 08 crash. It was a beautiful opportunity for investors. I learned how to trade from Phil Grande on his Phil’s Gang radio show.

How do you become a at home video game tester?
I just grad. high school (2010) and im attending college in the spring but i have extra time on my hands and i must say i have a video game skill… and i know i would be a huge benefit to any company as a beta tester or any other testing positions. Could someone please help me get this position?

admin answers:
It takes millions of dollars to develop a game.
Keeping things secret is a key to generating BUZZ when a title is released.
There is Staff dedicated to see if there are leaks and prosecute if there are.
There is Staff planning the BUZZ upon release.
If you were to put out an ad for a Game Tester position, you would get 200-300 or more resumes for that position.
The reality is, there is no at home video game testing that is consistant work.
You can do the following:
1) sign up for betas, participate and if and when you get a free copy of something sell it on Ebay
(that is how you get the claim of stay at home and make $120/hr — you play a game for 20 minutes, and give some feedback, weeks later you get the title, sell it on ebay for $40 and you just made $120/hr for testing games at home….)
2) look for focus groups
You will have to leave your home but usually you get $20-$100 for 1-4 hours of your time.
3) participate in Usuability or Marketing Studies
You will have to leave your home but usually you get $20-$100 for 1-4 hours of your time.
In short, anything that sounds too good to be true is…
There are people who will sell “Play games at home and earn great money” to try to get some of your money.
There are Millions of kids in the US and and Billions World Wide that consider being in the Video Game Industry and you are competing with all of them.
