For testing not much software / programming knowledge is required, but its a pretty boring job, since you have to play every level a lot of times, trying a lot of weird things, to see if any bugs apear.

Anyway, I was a beta tester at Capcom USA for a few years during the Street Fighter 2, CE, Turbo, Hyper, etc. Years. It was a lot of fun.
I would recommend that you just find the companies that are in your area and speak directly to their HR (or look on their website) to see if they have any openings.
I know personally that Blizzard (Irvine, CA) is looking for more testers for their expansion to the World of Warcraft, if you’re interested in that.

As far as qualifications/skills . . . It will vary from company to company, but you won’t need any programming skills or anything like that. Most likely a college degree (or college enrollment) and an ability to communicate with an attention to detail are what you will see as requirements.

Aside from the common knowledge of getting schooling, which of course, increases your chances of getting hired. There are also some instances that having connections entitles you to get a job even without proper game-related schooling. A friend of mine got a job after being well-known in cosplaying circles. I got to be a game tester for a day because of her.

How Old Do You Need To Be To Become A Video Game Tester?
A couple of months ago my aunt told me that i should get a job as a video game tester. I am 15 and she told me that she had this neighbor that let her family test his companies games and that she got paid for it. Just give me the heads up if ya know where i can apply over the internet.
This isnt for a full time job, im just in 9th grade. This is just so i can make a few bucks.
